A quiz question on the projector with a timer and four coloured answers, and students answering on their phones.

How it works

The quiz editor: questions with four coloured answers each, the right one ticked in green.
1. Write your questions. Four answers each; tap the right one. Start from our sample or a blank quiz.
The projector shows a join code, a QR code and nine students' names; a phone shows the join screen.
2. Students join. They go to quiz.omgs.app or scan the QR code, then type the 6-digit code and a first name. Names pop up on the big screen.
The projector shows the right answer and the top 5; phones show 'Nice one! +780' and 'Not quite'.
3. Play. A 20-second timer, points for fast right answers, the top 5 after each question and a podium at the end.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. Hosting a quiz is free, with no sign-up and no card. Up to 100 students can play in each game.

Do students need an account or an app?

No. They open the website on a phone, tablet or Chromebook, scan the QR code or type the 6-digit code, and enter a first name.

How is it different from Kahoot's free plan?

Kahoot's help centre says free accounts are typically limited to 10 to 40 players, depending on the account type. This quiz allows up to 100 students for free. Kahoot has a large library of ready-made quizzes; here you write your own questions.

Where are my quizzes saved?

In your browser, with no sign-up. If you sign in with a free omg.dev account, your quizzes are saved to the account and open on any computer, such as your school laptop and your computer at home. Students never sign in.

What if a student types a rude name?

Common rude words are blocked, and the teacher can click any name in the lobby to remove that student.

Can I change how it works?

Yes. The quiz was built on omg.dev from one request, so you can build your own version with teams, pictures or your school's colours. omg.dev is free to try, and plans start at $19/month.
